Club Profile

Pershore Town 88 FC was formed in 1988 when Pershore United and Pershore Rec. Rovers joined together with a junior section called Pershore Bullets to provide a better standard of football and to generally improve the facilities at the current ground, King George V Playing Fields. The first project undertaken was to demolish the old changing facilities and replace it with our new clubhouse. The project was financed by various means and built by the hard work of many of the clubs initial members.

Now looking forward to our twenty-third year, we can
look back on a very mixed bag of results. The early years were absolutely exhilarating. No one could begin to imagine the astounding success that was to be achieved as the club went forward laying solid foundations for the future of the club, which is still going strong now.

With the excellent facilities the clubs first team was originally accepted into Division Two of the Midland Football Combination in season 1989-90, the Town lost the opening three fixtures then proceeded to take the division by storm. With then manager John Judge, the first season saw Pershore crowned 2nd division champions by an eleven point margin. The Town finished third in Division One the next season and were promoted to the Premier League by the League Management Committee. This was the stepping-stone for greater things in the short history of Pershore Town. There were also many cup successes along the way; Pershore Town 88 was certainly making a name for itself.

Season 1991-92 saw a change of management when Colin Shepherd was appointed and the next two seasons saw Pershore consolidate its position as one of the better teams in the Midland Combination Premier League. The club's reputation was growing; not only on the playing side, but also by now the club was able to boast more than 600 members. A new function room the 'Abbey Suite' that is able to cater for 120 people was built. The club also maintained its policy on ground improvements with a 140 all seater stand being built.

The 1993-94 season is by far the most successful to date. Pershore entered the FA Cup for the first time winning through to the Fourth Qualifying Round with victories over Racing Club Warwick, Northampton Spencer and Pelsall Villa before defeating Atherstone United at home in front of the BBC cameras and a then record crowd of 730. The run was ended just one round away from the first round proper, against Yeading and was watched by an incredible record crowd attendance of 1356 people.

The club was even previewed on both the BBC's "Road to Wembley" and Central news. The season was rounded off by the club being crowned Midland Combination Premier League Champions on the very last day of the season.

During these formative years, the club also won the Robert Biggart Memorial Cup an incredible three times, the Worcestershire Junior Cup and the Jack Mould Cup as well as being runners-up in the Worcestershire Senior Urn.

Having won the Premier Division Title, Pershore Town 88 became founder members of the newly formed Midland Football Alliance League in season 1994-95. The top 10 teams from both the Midland Combination Premier and the West Midland Premier leagues created this league. Although the club has finished in the bottom half in both years, periods of success were enjoyed and at one point in the 1995-96 season the Town were third in the division. Prior to the 1998-99 seasons Pershore Town 88 amalgamated with Midland Combination Champions, Worcester Athletico, with the hope of bolstering the Towns struggle to survive in the Midland Alliance. However having spent six seasons in the division, and after several managerial changes relegation came at the end of season 1999-2000 finishing bottom of the league, resulting in Pershore Town dropping back into the Midland Football Combination Premier Division where the club still remains.

For the last seven seasons Pershore Town have settled into the Midland Combination Premier Division and a period of mid table transition ensued.

At the start of the 2006-07 season a new committee was formed with many of the old stalwart faces returning to the club under the chairmanship of Colin Shepherd. This returned stability to the club and the team again finished mid table even though at Christmas the Town were at the bottom of the Division staring relegation in the face.

Last season saw Pershore finish in twentieth position in the Premier Division in Kevin Barrys first full season in charge. Kevin Barry resigned in October this year and a new management team of Neil Hunt, Gary Aldington and former Reserve Team manager by Glen Brotherton have been appointed. Mr D Rourke has taken over as the new chairman of the club and the club start this season with enthusiasm and confidence following some close season rebuilding and some encouraging pre-season results.
